Jon Wicker Update

First of all I want to thank you for your support of the raffle organized by Phil Spalla and Art Tonucci for my benefit. It was much appreciated. We had a great day and I was thrilled to be there to be a part of it.

The mere fact that I am able to walk is in itself a miracle and a blessing. By all accounts, and according to my doctors, it is nothing short of a miracle that I am not paralyzed from the neck down. I remember thinking as I was falling from the tower, "this is it, I'm done". When I hit the ground, I heard my backbone snap and then I hit my head on the ground. I ended up with about 6 fractures in my neck and 8 in the lumbar area of my back, plus some other less severe injuries. I don't think anyone can explain it, but I am almost literally walking away from what should have been a fatal fall. I have what I am hoping will be my last CT Scan on October 31st, followed up with a meeting with my neurosurgeon on November 2nd to review the CT Scan. If all is well, then I will be allowed to get out of the body cast and cervical collar I have worn for these last 3 months. The doctor told me, he will still want me to wear a less intrusive, supported lumbar corset and a smaller collar until such time my muscles have gained some more strength.

As for my shooting, well, the doc and I have to negotiate that a bit. He initially told me I would not be shooting for 18 months. He, himself a new shooter to sporting clays, at least has
some understanding of our sport. All kidding aside, I suspect that I will have some time ahead of me just getting myself back into shape where I can walk without the use of my cane. Then I can talk to the doc about some sub-gauge activities maybe next summer.

To that end, as a way to show my appreciation to so many shooters who responded to my accident with cards and well wishes, and to maybe help them save some money on their shooting costs in these tough economic times I thought I would offer what I am calling an "Owner's Promotion" for the months of November and December 2009 where I am discounting my clay fee by almost 40% for a squad of 5 shooters.

Here below is a copy of the flyer information I am sending out.
