The LWSSC McGough Classic is scheduled for March 7, 2009.

It is the largest shoot in Alabama with a little over 200 registered last year (the cold ran a few off but cant remember the final participation number - who can predict snow in Montgomery, Alabama?) .

It is only a $60 entry but 1 in 3 won a prize over $150 in door prizes and 1 in 5 won a prize over $300 in door prizes - all in addition to the class prizes. It is a one day shoot with about $15,000 in door prizes and about $5,000 in class prizes. We now have two courses, so I am debating on adding a subgauge option, fitasc, another 5-stand, or whatever. Event details are being updated but can be seen at http://www.lwssc.com/Flyers&Results/McgoughClassic/030709McGoughClassic.htm as more details are confirmed.

Shoot With The Big Dawgs!

George Ostrander, Mark Latakas, Brian Griffin, and Mike Griffin have invited the Saturday Shootout Series to “Shoot With The Big Dawgs" at Hendrick Hudson Fish & Game.  The 2009 Season kicks off on the woods course in the rolling hills of the Capital District.  We will shoot 100 targets over 13 fully automated stations on what George Ostrander describes as a “very fun course”.  Personal golf carts and ATV’s are welcome.

Gang,

Now that the hordes have left the Washington area, it's time for the Travelers to start planning to fill the vacuum.  Yes, I know that everyone is still in the middle of winter league with spikes on their boots, but some of us are dreaming of the semi-official start of the warm weather season, the Connecticut Travelers Sporting Clays Association Spring Trip 2009, "Chesapeake Clays."

The Connecticut Travelers travel to Maryland on April 3-5, 2009 for all the clays you can shoot and all the crab you can eat.
Friday afternoon we visit Schraders' Bridgetown Manor, Henderson, Maryland. http://www.schradershunting.com  Schraders boasts 24 sporting clays stations, three five-stand presentations and a wobble trap. We spent a full day there last year and had a great time. The fun starts at 12.30 (some of us will be there Friday morning as well).
Saturday, we spend the day at Pintail Point, Queenstown, Maryland . www.theriverplantation.com  20 stations, a 5 stand "farm" and a wobble trap will provide us with the day's entertainment. We know it well, and love it. There is plenty to keep us busy all day and lunch will be available in the clubhouse.

Sunday morning we cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and try a new (for us) venue, the Prince George's County Trap and Skeet Center, Glenn Dale, Maryland.  www.pgtonline.org .  The "Prince" is one of the largest public shooting facilities in the country.  Each year, shooters attempt over 3 million targets at the Prince.  In addition to the 23 station sporting clays course, there are 13 Skeet and Trap Fields, a 5 Stand, Wobble Trap, Doubles Trap and Bunker Trap.  If you never have been humbled by bunker trap, you must give it a try.

Dinners on Friday and Saturday nights will be at Harris' Crab House, Kent Narrows, MD.  Friday night, trays of  Steamed Crab & Shrimp will be served at each table until everyone is full (with BBQ chicken for those who don't like their food in a shell).  Saturday will be a dinner with your choice that night of Crab Imperial with Broiled Scallops, Delmonico Steak, Broiled Rockfish, BBQ Chicken & Ribs, Snow Crab Legs & Steamed Shrimp or Fried Crab Cake with Fried Shrimp. Cocktails and appetizers start each night at 7.30. After dinner, you are welcome to join your fellow Travelers on the deck and indulge in cordials and cigars as we brag about our new guns and lie about how well we shot the course.

The reservation form is attached.  It must be returned to Bob Schrager by March 20, 2009.

We have 40 rooms reserved at the Best Western Kent Narrows Inn, 3101 Main Street, Grasonville  MD  21638 (410.827.6767) at a special Connecticut Travelers rate of $75.00 per night (and that's not a typo;  I was able to get them to reduce the rate from last year by $24 per night—more money for shells and crabs).  First come, first serve.  And a word of warning—we expect about 25 Keystone Ramblers to join us this year.  Grab a room before they are all gone.
